Recovery Walks! 2011 Attracts Over 15,000 Walkers
(Philadelphia, September 24, 2011)- More than 15,000 people turned out this morning at Penn’s Landing for Recovery Walks! 2011, an annual PRO-ACT sponsored walk in celebration of those in recovery from addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs.

Online International Recovery Resources Guide Launched
(Washington, DC, July 7, 2011) – Faces & Voices of Recovery has launched the International Recovery Resources Guide, an online resource to foster the development of networks of support between recovery community organizations and allies in the US and internationally. Lisa Mojer-Torres Award Announced. Nationally-recognized advocate for addiction recovery to be honored at annual America Honors Recovery event
(WASHINGTON, D.C., June 22, 2011) – Faces & Voices of Recovery, the nation’s leading addiction recovery advocacy organization, announced that it has created an award in the memory of Lisa Mojer-Torres, the organization’s first board chair. Mojer-Torres, who passed away after a prolonged struggle with cancer, was a tenacious fighter for the rights of individuals with addiction.

11,000 Turn Out for Greater Philadelphia Recovery Walks! at Penn’s Landing
(Philadelphia, PA)- Eleven thousand people from Philadelphia, the surrounding region and neighboring states descended upon the City of Brotherly Love September 25 to rally and walk together in celebration of the over 20 million Americans in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, to honor those still struggling, and in appreciation for the many treatment and prevention groups that are increasingly making recovery a reality.

Recovery Voices Count: Answering the Call of Civic Engagement and Public Service
Across the nation, people in recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, their families, friends and allies are engaging friends, neighbors and leaders on all sides of the political aisle in the 2010 election cycle as part of Recovery Voices Count.
They are registering voters, asking candidates questions, organizing Candidate Forums and Town Hall meetings and will be Getting Out the Vote on Election Day.

Citizen Advocates Call on Insurance Companies to Fully Implement Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act
(Washington, DC, January 29, 2010) – Citizen advocates hailed the federal government’s release of interim regulations to implement the Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act and called on all insurance companies to comply with the new regulations. “The regulations are out, and not a moment too soon,” said Stephen Gumbley, vice chair of the national recovery advocacy organization Faces & Voices of Recovery. “Some insurance companies have already put plans in place that fall short of this law’s intent, severely restricting patients’ access to life-saving care. This needs to change and we encourage individuals and families covered by these plans to ask them to fully implement policies consistent with this new law.”
